The more sunlight it receives, the more compact and vigorous the growth tends to be. In extremely hot inland locations, some afternoon protection can be beneficial.

Water

Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry before watering again.

Once established in the landscape, this is a highly drought-tolerant plant. Avoid keeping the root zone constantly wet.

Soil

Excellent drainage is essential.

Use a gritty succulent/cactus soil or a sandy, rocky landscape soil that does not stay saturated after irrigation.

For containers, drainage holes are strongly recommended.

Growth Habit

Low-growing and spreading.

The stems weave together to form a dense living mat and will naturally travel across soil, gravel and rocks. Given enough room, a single planting can eventually become a substantial groundcover.
